Storm damage: first seal the roof, then repair it

After a storm you mainly want one thing: no rain coming in. That is why we first make the roof watertight and then take a calm look at exactly what has been damaged.

We record the damage with photos and a description. You can take that to your insurer, and you can be sure the less visible damage is included too.

Damage that is common after a storm

  • Roof tiles that have blown away, broken or shifted
  • Loose ridge tiles or hip tiles
  • Lifted or torn roof covering on a flat roof
  • Roof edging, gutters or lead flashing that has been torn loose
  • Leaks or wet patches inside shortly after the storm

Approach

How we tackle it

  1. Safe and sealed

Where needed we first seal the roof temporarily, so no more water gets in and nothing else can fall off the roof.

  2. Assess the damage

We inspect the whole roof, including the parts you cannot see from the street, and record everything with photos.

  3. Permanent repair

Then we repair the damage with matching materials. You receive the photos and a description for your insurer.

Costs

What determines the price?

We do not quote amounts here: without a survey of your roof that would be guesswork. The quote itemises the costs, so you can see what the total is made up of.

  • The extent of the damage and the number of spots
  • Whether a temporary seal is needed
  • Access to the roof
  • Whether matching materials are available straight away
  • Consequential damage to roof boarding or insulation

Frequently asked questions

Questions about storm damage

Is storm damage covered by my insurance?

Usually yes, through your buildings insurance (opstalverzekering). Many policies define a storm as wind force 7 or more, but your own policy decides. Report the damage to your insurer and take your own photos before the repair starts.

Can I just put a tile back myself?

Better not. After a storm a roof is often slippery and some tiles may be loose. Catch any water inside and leave the roof to a professional.

How do I prevent damage in the next storm?

Well-fixed tiles and ridge tiles and an underlay in good condition make the biggest difference. During an inspection we can see where the roof is vulnerable.
